TMS therapy for depression, guided by a psychiatrist who takes the time to listen
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive, FDA-cleared treatment for adults with major depressive disorder. Sessions are short, you stay awake and comfortable, and you can return to your usual day afterwards.
What TMS is
TMS uses focused magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. It is an outpatient treatment delivered in our Edina office. There is no anaesthesia, and you can drive yourself to and from each session.
NeuroStar TMS is FDA-cleared for adults with major depressive disorder, including depression with anxiety symptoms, and as an adjunct treatment for adult OCD. It is also cleared as an adjunct treatment for adolescents aged 15 to 21 with depression.
What patients appreciate
- Short, outpatient sessions
- Awake and comfortable throughout
- Continue your usual day after treatment
- A plan built around your history and goals
- In-person care in Edina, convenient to the Twin Cities
Who may be a candidate
TMS is often considered when depression has not improved enough with previous treatment. Every situation is different, so the first step is a careful consultation to review your symptoms, treatment history and goals.
Your clinician will determine whether TMS is appropriate for you. TMS is not suitable for everyone, including some people with certain metal implants near the head.

Common questions
Is TMS covered by insurance?
Many insurance plans cover TMS for eligible patients. Coverage and out-of-pocket costs depend on your plan, and our team can help verify your benefits before you begin.
Is TMS safe?
TMS is non-invasive and FDA-cleared. It does not require anaesthesia, and you remain awake during each session. Your clinician will review your medical history to confirm it is appropriate for you.
What are the common side effects?
The most commonly reported side effect is mild discomfort or headache at or near the treatment area, which usually lessens over the first weeks. Your clinician will discuss any risks that apply to you.
How long is a session, and how many will I need?
Sessions are short and take place in our office. A typical course involves sessions on weekdays over several weeks. Your plan is tailored to you and discussed at your consultation.
Can I drive and go back to work afterwards?
Yes. Most people drive themselves and return to their usual activities right after a session.
